MCCC’s WWFM The Classical Network Named Top 50 College Station in U.S.

8/17/15

WEST WINDSOR – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) was named one of the “50 Colleges with the Best Radio Stations” by BestColleges.com, a national website that serves as a resource for prospective college students.

WWFM The Classical Network, located on MCCC’s West Windsor Campus, was listed in the survey among other high-profile colleges, including Georgetown, University of California-Berkeley, DePaul, and Florida State University. WWFM was the only classical music station, and one of only two New Jersey stations – the other being Rutgers.

“On air since 1982, today the station is known for providing a robust selection of classical music and orchestral pieces to listeners,” BestColleges.com said in its review. “The station also maintains a full calendar of events within live music theatre, museum exhibits, opera, and dance recitals.”

BestColleges.com also noted that WWFM broadcasts from MCCC to both the local communities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, as well as Philadelphia and New York via digital radio and through webcasts.

Peter Fretwell, general manager at WWFM, said he was pleasantly surprised by the recognition, but the rationale made perfect sense.

“It’s a nice affirmation that somebody out there – somebody we don’t even know – recognizes that size and deep pockets don’t make for great programming,” Fretwell said. “That only comes from passion and knowledge and great support. We have all three.”

Located on MCCC’s West Windsor Campus, WWFM is New Jersey’s only 24-hour classical music station. The station can be heard at 89.1 FM throughout Central New Jersey, in Philadelphia on 89.5 HD2, in New York on 89.9 HD2, and worldwide via www.wwfm.org.
