Individual Effort :
Please keep in mind that General Biology I, General
Biology II, and Ecology are serious college level courses for students
who are willing to work dilligently to improve their level of knowledge
in these disciplines. We can accomplish a great deal together, but only
if you make a personal commitment to the course you are taking and plan
on giving it your best effort for the entire semester.
Academic Integrity Statement :
Any student who a.) knowingly represents the
work of others as his/her own b.) uses or obtains unauthorized assistance
in the execution of any academic work or c.) gives fraudulent assistance
to another student is guilty of cheating. Violators will be penalized in
accordance with established college regulations, policies, and procedures.
Classroom Conduct:
It is your responsibilty to attend all of your classes.
If you miss a class for any reason, you are responsible for all content
that is covered, for any announcements made in your absence, and for acquiring
any materials that may have been distributed. It is expected that you will
be on time for all of your classes. If you walk into a class after it has
already begun, it is expected that you will select a seat close to where
you entered the room so that you do not disrupt the class.
You are expected to follow ordinary rules of courtesy
during our class sessions. Engaging in private, side conversations during
class time is distracting to other students and to the instructor. Leaving
class early without having informed the instructor prior to the beginning
of the class is not appropriate. Unless there is an emergency, leaving
class and returning while the class is in session is not acceptable behavior.
Disruptive behavior of any type, including sharpening pencils during class
while someone is speaking, is not appropriate. Also, please turn off any
cellular phones, beepers, pagers, or similar electronic devices at the
beginning of each class session. This will prevent other students and the
instructor from being distracted by devices that ring, beep, or make other
inappropriate noises at the wrong time.
With this understanding your professor welcomes you into an environment that creates a sense of community, pride, and respect. We are here to work cooperatively and to learn together. Good luck in your study of Biology and Ecology and enjoy the courses.
