Vice President of Academic Affairs [Full-time] - Mercer County Community College (MCCC) seeks a Vice President of Academic Affairs commencing in the Summer or Fall of 2008. This position fosters educational vision for learning and provides leadership for the academic life, program and operations of the college, both credit and noncredit. The successful candidate will be an advocate for academic rigor and innovation with a significant academic background, including teaching, as well as have a record of encouraging and nurturing collaboration and supporting faculty driven initiatives. In addition, familiarity with accreditation, instructional and administrative technology, unionized faculty and staff is essential. Serves as a senior leader of the college working closely with the President and other members of the Executive Team. Represents the President and college to appropriate external and internal stakeholders.

MCCC, now in its 42nd year of service, is a comprehensive, publicly supported two-year institution. For the 2007 academic year almost 30,000 individuals participated in credit courses, continuing education and community outreach programs. The college employs 138 full time faculty members and has a budget exceeding $50 Million.

Students may attend the college through day, evening, and weekend classes at the West Windsor Campus, the James Kerney Campus, or through the Virtual College. The 292-acre West Windsor Campus is located approximately six miles north of Trenton, New Jersey. The James Kerney Campus (JKC), founded in 1975 and located in the center of downtown Trenton, was created to serve the educational needs of an urban population, including the urban poor. Students at both campuses enjoy a variety of organizations and activities, top-notch athletics, and cultural opportunities. In the classroom and beyond, MCCC's faculty and staff are devoted to student success through a wealth of programs and services such as academic advisement, transfer and career counseling.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree, with preference given to an earned doctorate, or those actively pursing a doctoral degree;
  • Significant related administrative experience at the level of division head or dean in higher education;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills and a thorough understanding of the importance of academic operations to the fulfillment of community college mission and goals.
