Urban Focus Collaborative Education Degree Program

The Urban Focus partnership between The College of New Jersey and Mercer County Community College is designed to address the growing need for teachers specifically prepared to work with young people in our least advantaged areas.

The College of New Jersey (TCNJ)'Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Collaborative Education Degree Program (CEDP) is designed to attract and prepare prospective teachers who are interested in teaching in an urban setting. In this unique program, selected coursework and field experience for CEDP students will reflect an urban emphasis.

  • Students will fulfill part of their general education requirements at MCCC.
  • Students who successfully complete the MCCC prescribed course of study, earning an Associate of Arts degree in Humanities and Social Science, and who meet the program criteria, will be admitted to TCNJ with junior status.
  • Students will then complete the required general education and major coursework at TCNJ.
  • Graduates of this program will earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with an Arts and Science major in Sociology and will be eligible for teacher certification.
