Internet Use Procedure
The libraries of MCCC provide Internet access to users as a part of its mission to support the educational, instructional, and research needs of its students, faculty, and staff. Alumni and Members of the community (guests) are welcome to use the Open Computer Lab when computers are not in use or required by students, faculty, or staff.
In keeping with the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and the Access to Electronic Information, Services, and Networks: An interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights, the MCCC Library establishes the following Procedures and practices.
- Valid identification must be presented to the monitor or library staff person on duty in order to use a computer in the computer lab. Subsequent visits will require the same process no matter how little time has elapsed.
- Students: a valid MCCC ID card, an MCCC registration schedule accompanied by a picture ID e.g. driver’s license or valid picture work ID
- Alumni: a valid MCCC alumni card
- Guests: an Internet Access Card issued from the library circulation desks at either the West Windsor or James Kerney Campus
- In order to receive a One Day Lab Pass, you must present a current registration schedule to the circulation desk staff. This pass is issued ONCE per semester if you should not have a valid picture ID with you.
- Internet access for students will be limited to one-hour sessions when other students are waiting. Alumni and guests will be asked to logoff and sign out within 15 minutes to grant access to a waiting MCCC student.
- Users are responsible for complying with all international, national, state and local laws and ordinances and college Procedures governing copyright access to any Internet site.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany any child under age 18 (provided that child is not registered as an MCCC credit student). Parents and/or legal guardians are responsible for any Internet content that a child may view or read when they are in the company of this person in the lab. Parents must sign in and stay with each child that sits at a computer.
- Children registered in noncredit programs may use the Internet under the supervision of staff from the program in which they are enrolled.
- Use of library computer resources and services for other than research and instruction is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action. It is strictly forbidden to access or attempt to access games and chat rooms not related to MCCC-based instructional assignments.
- Please respect the rights of others to learn. Lab/Library staff is authorized to ask you to leave the premises for any form of loud or disruptive behavior as defined in the MCCC student handbook rights and responsibilities or failure to comply with the lab Procedures.
- Users may neither install software on the hard drive nor copy software from the hard drive of any computer in the library. All users must respect the legal protection provided to program and data by copyright and license.
- All users must respect to the privacy and usage privileges of others, both on the MCCC campuses and at all sites reachable by the college’s external networks.
- Users shall not identify themselves falsely at any time. Authorization to use and access resources in the MCCC Library is granted to those seeking to use electronic library resources. Users are prohibited from circumventing restricted access programs.
- Users shall not use programs that harass other users, either on an MCCC campus or elsewhere.
- Computer services shall be terminated for users who do not comply with these Procedures.
- The MCCC library will publish revisions of this Procedure and make them available to users.
