Procedure for Access and Use of Computers in the MCCC Library Open Lab

The Open Lab in the Library is available to all registered students for general academic work. When there is space, members of the public (guests) may use the computers. Students and guests must comply with all library rules.

  1. All users must show identification to the Lab Monitor and place it in the slot on top of the computer. Students must have updated student IDs or MCCC registration schedules accompanied by ID (e.g., driver's license or work ID). Guests must show the green MCCC library card.

  2. Everyone must sign the attendance sheet legibly by printing his or her full name, computer station number before using the equipment. No one may sign in or out for another person. Handwriting that is not legible is cause to deny access to the lab.

  3. The college maintains the supervised Open Lab for students to master course-related skills and to complete course assignments. When all computers are being used and students are waiting for an available computer, the following rules apply:

    • Guests (and alumni) shall leave when asked to on a First In First Out (FIFO) basis and be replaced by a waiting student.
    • After all guests (and alumni) are replaced, students who have been using computers for more than 1 hour are asked to leave on a FIFO basis and are replaced by a waiting student. The replaced student may now go to the end of the line to wait for an open computer.

  4. Only course related work may be performed when others are waiting for an available computer.

  5. Only college owned software may be run. Users may not load or copy software on any computer.

  6. Use of the Internet is restricted to MCCC students, faculty, staff, and guests who comply with the MCCC Internet Use Procedure.

  7. Cell phone usage is strictly prohibited.

  8. When leaving lab please turn off all equipment at the end of scheduled Open-Lab periods, and computer users shall then leave the Open-Lab facility.

  9. Food and beverages are not allowed in the Open Lab.

  10. The Lab Monitor has the right to turn off any computer and/or printer for infractions of these rules, disruptive behavior, or maintenance of equipment.

  11. Use of library computer resources and services for other than research and instruction is strictly prohibited and may result in disciplinary action. It is strictly forbidden to access or attempt to access games, inappropriate websites, and chat rooms.

  12. Use of headphones is permitted as long as the sound cannot be heard by anyone else.

  13. In order to receive a One Day Lab Pass, you must present a current registration schedule to the circulation desk staff. These passes are issued ONCE per semester if you should not have a valid picture ID with you.
