Programs in Liberal Arts, Education, Natural and Applied Sciences

Mercer County Community College offers several degree and certificate programs for people interested in liberal arts, education, natural and applied sciences.

Program Description
Biology Prepare to transfer into the junior year of a bachelor's degree program in ecology, conservation, biology, microbiology, pharmacy, forestry, entomology, dentistry, biotechnology, physical therapy, physician assistant or medicine.
Chemistry Prepare to transfer into the junior year of a bachelor's degree program in chemistry or chemical engineering, industrial chemistry, chemical sales and service, environmental technology, medicine or pharmacy. Opportunities in the field include pollution analysis and control, chemical research, medicine, teaching and chemical quality control in production.
Education Prepare to transfer into the junior year of a bachelor's degree program in education. Study the history, philosophy and practices of education and participate in service learning or field experience in an area school.
Education/Special Education Assistant Prepare for a career as an education assistant or teacher's aide in schools, day care centers and other institutions.
Engineering Science

Prepare to transfer into the sophomore year of a four-year college in a specific engineering program major.
Humanities and Social Science Prepare to transfer into a liberal arts program at a baccalaureate college in English, foreign languages, history, humanities, journalism, law, literature, psychology, sociology, education and other fields.
International Studies Prepare to transfer to a baccalaureate college to major in international studies, international relations, world history, international business and foreign languages.
Laboratory Technology Prepare to work as a biological or chemical technician assisting research scientists in governmental, industrial or production facilities in research, quality control or product testing and development and other areas.
Mathematics Prepare to transfer to a baccalaureate college to major in a variety of fields. Mathematics can be studied alone or combined with other majors to prepare for occupations in accounting firms, chemical or pharmaceutical industries, engineering and computer science.
Ornamental Horticulture Prepare for a career in landscape planning, floral design, greenhouse management, nursery operation, turfgrass maintenance or sales with nurseries, major growers, landscaping firms, flower shops and country clubs.
Paraprofessional Classroom Educator

Prepare for positions as paraprofessionals in a school setting or classroom, instructional aides, and assistant teachers in a pre-school or daycare setting. Individuals currently holding paraprofessional positions may use this program to enhance classroom and related skills.
Plant Science Prepare to transfer to a baccalaureate college to major in horticulture, botany, conservation, environmental science, ecology and forestry. This program parallels the biology program with an emphasis on botany.
Political and Legal Studies Prepare to transfer into the junior year of a bachelor's degree program in political science, history, philosophy, law, justice and other fields.
