Mercer County Community College offers several degree programs for people interested in fine, visual and performing arts.

Fine Arts
Program Description
Art History Build a foundation in the history of the arts in western, non-western and so-called primitive societies. Focus on the history of painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, photography and the decorative arts. Prepare for careers in art museums and galleries, art restoration and art history scholarship.
Ceramics/Sculpture Develop aesthetic understanding and gain a broad-based practical knowledge of the three-dimensional arts. Learn ceramic hand building, wheel-throwing techniques, glazing, formulas, electric kilns and sculptural methods. Develop creative solutions to functional ceramic and sculptural problems.
Fine Arts Gain a deeper knowledge and appreciation of art history. Develop a broad-based education in the theory and practice of visual arts, concentrating on drawing, painting and printmaking, technical skills and personal expression.
Photography Expand your personal vision and grow aesthetically while also learning commercial application of skills. Gain experience in camera operation, exposure, film development, printing and the use of natural and artificial lighting.

Visual Arts
Program Description
Advertising Design Prepare to be a designer or assistant art director in an advertising agency, design firm, corporate communication department and the television industry. Study graphic design, advertising design, visual communication, multimedia and illustration.
Computer Graphics Prepare to work in a design firm, corporate or communications department, educational software company, television, film and video-effects house, and other branches of the information and entertainment industries. Learn two - dimensional and three - dimensional graphics and animation, interactive multimedia design and production, film, video or illustration.
Illustration Display your talent with a focus on illustration. Prepare for a career as an illustrator or graphic communicator in an advertising agency, design firm, publishing house, production studio or corporation. Learn creative thinking and fine art skills in both traditional and computer - generated forms.

Performing Arts
Program Description
Dance Gain knowledge and mastery of fundamental dance skills in jazz, ballet and modern dance. Opportunities to participate in the Mercer Dance Ensemble and college theatre productions.
Music Build a foundation in music theory and harmony, sight-singing, dictation skills and performance. Enhance your musical development through courses in music history, jazz improvisation and jazz history. Explore musical experiences ranging from popular and jazz to classical. Opportunities to perform with the Mercer Jazz Band, Chamber Ensemble, Chorus and Community Band.
Theatre Master fundamental theatre skills. Participate in technical, managerial and performance aspects of theatre production through workshops and productions. Work will professional actors through Mercer's Kelsey Theatre and Mercer's affiliation with the Passage Theatre Company in Trenton at Mill Hill Playhouse.
