The Java Certificate Program is not just a "how to" course on creating programs. It is an intensive, hands-on program designed for software developers and web professionals that will enable them to create, document and deploy Java applications for a variety of environments. The program stresses an understanding of the relevant technologies and use of the Web as a platform to deliver business solutions.

Courses are 35 hours each and may require additional time for project work outside of class.

After completion of the certificate program, participants will be able to:

  • research existing and create new Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition documentation
  • use the Java language to develop, extend and reuse classes that meet business requirements
  • create responsive cross-platform graphical applications and applets
  • demonstrate the use of Java API interfaces to organize collections of objects
  • show how to develop an application that can actively communicate with a web site
  • create reusable components that follow the JavaBeans specification
  • select the most appropriate JDBC statements to access relational database objects efficiently
  • develop Java applications that can read, create, manipulate and transform XML
  • create Web applications using Servlets and JSPs
