Television

Associate in Applied Science Degree in Radio / TV

Television is one of the two options of the Radio/TV program. Students are trained for employment as TV camera persons, directors, character generator (electronic graphics) operators, floor managers, audio board operators, lighting technicians or other entry-level TV production positions with a TV station, cable TV system or private industry TV facility.

Production classes involve work with state-of-the-art TV studio and control room equipment, and include practical work with lighting, TV studio and portable cameras, video editing, electronic graphics, producing and directing. Students should be prepared for a course of study emphasizing and developing communication skills in addition to practical and theoretical television instruction. Qualified students intern at a cable TV system, TV station or industrial TV facility. Many television graduates are employed by TV stations and cable TV systems in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and New York.

Some of the courses are offered in the evening; the complete program is available through daytime or a combination of daytime and evening attendance full-time or part-time.

Television is a career-oriented program leading to employment after graduation or transfer to four-year institutions.

Graduates of the Television option have transferred to colleges and universities in New Jersey and other states including Rutgers University, The College of New Jersey, Rowan University, William Paterson State University, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, Emerson College, Temple University, New York University, Boston University, Arizona State University, University of Maryland, and UCLA.

Admission to the Television option requires visual and aural acuity and a high school diploma or equivalent.

The successful graduate of the Television option is awarded an Associate in Applied Science degree in Radio/TV and will be able to:

  • achieve entry-level professional competence for a position in commercial, public, industrial, instructional, and cable television studios and facilities;
  • produce and direct a variety of TV programs;
