Business Management

Associate in Applied Science Degree

The Business Management program equips graduates with specific technical skills as well as a general overview of the field of business. The following options are provided:

  • Accounting and Management
  • Banking
  • Business Software Applications
  • Computer Systems and Network Administration
  • e-Commerce
  • Funeral Service Preparatory
  • Management
  • Marketing
  • Microcomputer Systems Administration

    Additional options can be developed with the aid of an advisor and the approval of the Division Dean. (See also Retail Management, Total Quality Management, and Small Business Management.) Cooperative education opportunities are also available. Admission to the Business Management program requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

    Management Option
    Graduates of the Management option of Business Management are awarded Associate in Applied Science degrees. Successful graduates will be qualified to obtain entry-level positions in retail firms, supermarket chains, manufacturing firms, government agencies and numerous types of small business firms, and will be able to:

    • use the principles of supervision to perform first-level management duties;
    • use practical applications to motivate employees;
    • prepare, review and discharge contracts;
    • use terminology common to the business environment for effective communication;
    • demonstrate familiarity with office equipment commonly used in business;
    • analyze/resolve problems common to entry-level business positions;
    • communicate information effectively in both written and oral modes of delivery;
    • comprehend how the global economy and international events affect domestic business decisions.
    Students may study full-time or part-time, and may receive credit for previous training by applying for credit-by-examination, credit-by-experience, or credit-by-articulation. Contact the Business Management coordinator for additional information.
