Mobile Computer Lab Brings Training to Area Businesses
Through MCCC's Center for Training and Development

7/7/10

West Windsor, NJ: For area businesses who need an easy way to provide computer training for their staff members, Mercer County Community College’s Center for Training and Development (CTD) is offering a new “Mobile Computer Lab On Wheels .”

Beginning late this month, the CTD’s mobile lab will bring computer training in the entire Microsoft Suite right to the doors of area businesses via experienced instructors who will travel with 15 laptop computers and related technology. Clients would only need to supply a room with tables or desks.

According to CTD Director Elaine Weinberg, the new service is designed to give smaller businesses in Mercer County area a more convenient way to provide professional development to their employees. “Smaller companies are often too short-staffed to enable their employees to travel off-site, even for much-needed computer training,” Weinberg said. “The new Mobile Computer Lab saves travel time and maximizes efficiently.”

Mercer’s Center for Training and Development provides customized training and coaching for organizations both large and small. In addition, the CTD assists companies in writing and administering NJ Department of Labor & Workforce Development (LWD) Customized Training Grants that can help offset the costs associated with training their workforce. The LWD is now accepting applications for new grants, and Weinberg is encouraging companies to contact the CTD to prepare the grant application.

These competitive grants are a key component in the Governor’s Economic Development Strategy, and are designed to benefit both employees and businesses by enhancing the skills of workers, thereby increasing their productivity and the competitiveness of the employer. According to Weinberg, “This investment by the State of New Jersey is provided to upgrade the skills of the workforce and to make companies more competitive in this economy."

The mobile training will be launched later this month. Interested companies may call Weinberg for further information at 609-570-3612 or e-mail weinbere@mccc.edu. More information about the CTD is also available online at www.mccc.edu/ctd.
