West Windsor, NJ: Through a new agreement, Mercer County Community College will offer credit classes at Hopewell Valley Central High School this fall, beginning October 4. The classes are open to all members of the community, including high school students 16 and above who are recommended by a teacher or counselor.
This fall’s offerings include Literature Into Film (Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 12 noon.), Intro to Psychology (Mondays, 7 – 10 p.m.), Screenwriting (Tuesdays, 6 – 10 p.m.), Moral Choices (Wednesdays, 7 to 10 p.m.), and American Sports History (Thursdays, 7 to 10 p.m.). To streamline the registration process there will be no prerequisites. Students who are matriculating at Mercer will be required to take the placement test.
According to Dr. Guy Generals, MCCC’s vice president for academic affairs, the college has been seeking new ways to reach out to the Hopewell community, and the Hopewell Board of Education was very welcoming. “This is a population we would like to serve better,” Generals said. “This is just the beginning, as we hope to expand beyond those courses in the future.”
Mercer County Community College’s main campuses are located in West Windsor and downtown Trenton, and classes are offered online through The Virtual College. Educational choices include 70 associate degree programs and 30 credit certificates. Mercer’s graduates often transfer to baccalaureate colleges, and through our University Center, three colleges currently offer bachelor’s degree programs at the West Windsor Campus. They are William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University and Felician College.
