Mercer County Symphonic Band to Perform Dec. 19


The Mercer County Symphonic Band, under the direction of Lou Woodruff, celebrates its 27th anniversary this season with the performance of its Winter Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 8 p.m. Featuring a variety of traditional and seasonal selections, the free concert takes place at Kelsey Theatre on the campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, NJ.

More than 300 area musicians have been involved with the organization over its history. The Band carries 65 members for the 2007-08 concert season, with ages spanning seven decades.

This season's Winter Concert features an eclectic program including Gustav Holst's Second Suite in F, Beethoven's Egmont Overture, selections from Les Miserables, music from the movie scores for Raiders of the Lost Ark and 2001 A Space Odyssey, and A Symphonic Prelude by Alfred Reed. The performance will also include a variety of seasonal selections, including Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson, several Hanukkah songs and other traditional holiday music.

The Mercer County Community Band, sponsored by Mercer County Community College, has earned a reputation for both excellence and entertainment for its performances that engage audiences with a wide range of classical and contemporary compositions for symphonic band. The Band is funded in part by the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission under a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
