"Portrait/Self Portrait" opened this week at The Gallery of Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and runs through Friday, December 17. Juried by Professor Mel Leipzig, a well-known artist and faculty member, the exhibit features 81 works of art in every type of media by 77 artists, all members of the Trenton Artist Workshop Association (TAWA).

TAWA and MCCC have had a close and productive relationship for the past 25 years, and Professor Leipzig was a founding member. The college and the artists’ group have continued to work together on exhibits, events, and projects, including the cataloging and scholarship of the late artists and faculty members Jimmy Colavita and Lou Draper.

Many MCCC students and faculty members are represented in the show, including faculty members Eric Kunsman, Kyle Stevenson, Mark Stockton, and Paula Swisher. Students include Anita Bose, Cheryl Gower, Clint Inting, and Sean Shearer. Many MCCC alumni are exhibiting, such as recent graduates Jon Allen, now studying at Pratt, and Matt Lucash, now in the MFA program at the Pennsylvania Academy.

A special slide lecture will be presented by Professor Leipzig on "The History of the Portrait" on Tuesday, December 7, at noon. The lecture takes place in the college’s Communications Building, Room 110, located just beneath The Gallery, and attendees will be able to view the show before or after the lecture.

The Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college’s West Windsor campus. Gallery hours for this show are Mondays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information call The Gallery at 609-586-4800, ext. 3589.
