"Portrait/Self Portrait" opened this week at The Gallery of Mercer County Community College (MCCC) and runs through Friday, December 17. Juried by Professor Mel Leipzig, a well-known artist and faculty member, the exhibit features 81 works of art in every type of media by 77 artists, all members of the Trenton Artist Workshop Association (TAWA).
TAWA and MCCC have had a close
and productive relationship for the past 25 years, and Professor Leipzig
was a founding member. The college and the artists’ group have continued
to work together on exhibits, events, and projects, including the cataloging
and scholarship of the late artists and faculty members Jimmy Colavita
and Lou Draper.
A special slide lecture will
be presented by Professor Leipzig on "The History of the Portrait"
on Tuesday, December 7, at noon. The lecture takes place in the college’s
Communications Building, Room 110, located just beneath The Gallery, and
attendees will be able to view the show before or after the lecture.
