Six Flags Animal Park Director to Speak at MCCC


WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Dr. William R. Rives, director of Six Flags Animal Park at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, N.J. since 1993, will lecture on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 12 noon at Mercer County Community College on "Operating a Zoological Park -- from Accounting to Veterinary Care." The event is presented free to the public as part of Mercer's Distinguished Lecture Series and will be held on the college's West Windsor campus in the Communications Building, room 109, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Prior to becoming park director, Dr. Rives served for ten years as the park's full-time veterinarian. He will speak about operating the zoological park, its history, layout, staffing, animal collection plan, conservation opportunities, educational components and financing. He will also talk about some of the fascinating experiences he has had with his wild animal population.

Dr. Rives grew up in Freehold Township and graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in biology. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Veterinary School in 1991.
