Lawrence Middle School and MCCC Develop Partnership
Craig Coenen, a member of the history faculty at Mercer County Community
College, speaks to students at Lawrence Middle School recently as
part of a new partnership.
N.J. -- Lawrence Middle School (LMS) and Mercer County Community
College (MCCC) have developed a working partnership that will give
seventh and eighth grade enrichment students at LMS a taste of college-level
teaching. Professors from Mercer will engage these highly motivated
young learners in studying selected topics in literature, writing
and history. Most classes will meet at LMS, and some will meet at
MCCC's West Windsor Campus.
The idea emerged
from a pilot effort developed last year, and has now become formalized
with the enthusiastic support of LMS Principal Andrew Zuckerman,
Lawrence Superintendent Philip Meara and MCCC's Acting President
Dr. Thomas N. Wilfrid. A member of the history faculty at MCCC,
Dr. Craig Coenen, and LMS enrichment teacher, George Smith, will
coordinate the program. Approximately six to eight groups of LMS
students, with about 15 in each group, are expected to participate.
