WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- Scott Loh of Hamilton has been appointed director of the Mercer County Fire Academy, which is now under the supervision of Mercer County Community College. He assumed his duties on July 16 at the Dempster Fire Service Training Center in Lawrence Township.

Mr. Loh has been active in the fire and emergency services community in Mercer County for many years in both volunteer and professional roles. He has served as chief of the Mercerville Fire Company, captain of the Nottingham Emergency Services Squad, and was chief academic operations manager for one year at the Mercer County Fire Academy. He most recently served as assistant chief and site protection specialist at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Mr. Loh has taught both credit and noncredit courses through the Mercer County Fire Academy, which offers a broad array of training programs. He is certified for many levels of fire and emergency management training, and is pursuing a bachelor's degree at Thomas Edison State College.

Scott Loh is the new director of the Mercer County Fire Academy.

In his new position, Mr. Loh plans to enhance and build upon current programs. "Our main focus is to strengthen what we have and then grow from there," he said. "We want to make good choices when we make choices to grow."

Thomas Wilfrid, MCCC's vice president for academic and student affairs, expressed confidence that Mr. Loh will be successful in the role. "We are all committed to preserving and building upon the healthy program that Scott has inherited from former director John Kubilewicz. Scott has many ideas for expanding the Academy's services in related areas such as emergency management," he said.

Mercer County Community College assumed responsibility for the Mercer County Fire Academy as of May 1 through an agreement with Mercer County. Firefighter training will continue to take place at the Dempster Center in Lawrence. The college offers an associate degree in Fire Science Technology and two credit certificate programs, Fire Code Enforcement and Fire Officer/Administrator.
