May 2004 Concerts Coming to Kelsey Theatre


The Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Chorus will celebrate spring with poetry, folk-songs, madrigals and more at its Spring Concert on Wednesday evening, May 12, 7:30 p.m. at the college's Kelsey Theater. Music by diLasso, Faure, Mendelssohn and Beethoven will be contrasted with folk pieces by Imogen Holst, Aaron Copland, and Harry Belafonte. The chorus is conducted by Dr. Marjorie Herman, associate professor of Music at MCCC and coordinator of the vocal music program at the Mercer County Performing Arts High School.

On Thursday, May 13 at 8 p.m. the Mercer County Community College Jazz Band will present its spring concert at Kelsey Theatre. Directed by MCCC Professor James Kelly, the program will include such jazz classics as Dizzy Gillespie’s “Groovin High” and Sonny Rollins' "Pent-Up House," as well as the Latin tinged "Berimbau" and Pat Metheney's modern fusion gem, "Question and Answer."

On Friday, May 14, the Mercer County Community Band, conducted by Dr. Louis Woodruff, will perform at 8 p.m. in Kelsey Theatre. The band is composed of talented musicians of all ages from throughout the county.

Kelsey Theater is located on the West Windsor campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road. Admission to the concerts is free and all are welcome. For further information call 609-586-4800 ext. 3735.
