Free Spring Concerts at MCCC

Community members are invited to two free spring concerts at Kelsey Theatre on the campus of Mercer County Community College, 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor, NJ.

The college’s Jazz Band will perform on Wednesday, May 4 at 8 p.m. Directed by faculty member James Kelly, the band will present jazz classics such as Earle Hagen’s sultry Harlem Nocturne, Duke Ellington’s It don’t Mean a Thing, and Oliver Nelson’s classic Stolen Moments. The program will also feature Kelly’s own arrangement of George Gershwin’s perennial favorite, Summertime, in addition to works by Charlie Parker and Herbie Hancock. All selections will feature standout improvisations by jazz students.

The MCCC Chorus, composed of students and community members, will perform its spring concert “OF THE PEOPLE – An Evening of Folk Songs” on Friday evening, May 6 at 8 p.m. Conducted by Music Director Marjorie Herman, D.M., the program will feature a variety of selections for chorus and soloists, including Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom, and such favorites as Turn, Turn, Turn, Erie Canal, Jeannie with the Light Brown Hair, O Danny Boy, and songs from the American Civil War and Ireland.
