Gwendolyn Jones to Lecture on "Storytelling"
Renowned area storyteller, Gwendolyn Jones, will give a lecture entitled "Storytelling: An Ancient and Modern Performing Art" at 12 noon on Thursday, April 14, at Mercer County Community College’s Communications Building, Room 110. The talk is free and open to the public.
Founder of the Garden State Storyteller's League, Jones will tell stories from Zulu Land and England, and share narrative poems and ballads. "Stories are the very essence of communication,” she said. “For time immemorial there have been storytellers.”
Jones travels statewide, telling tales at schools, festivals and clubs. She is a professor emeritus at the College of New Jersey, where she taught Children's Literature and storytelling for 26 years. An advocate for the art of storytelling, she calls it an art not given its due recognition.
