Abundant Classes for Personal Interest and Enrichment

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Anyone who has yearned to take short-term courses to gain new skills or for sheer enjoyment will be drawn to a broad, eclectic range of noncredit offerings at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) this spring and summer. Enriching classes for personal development run through July 31. Participants who register for a series receive a discount.

Those with a penchant for languages may choose from an array of classes, including ten sessions of "Beginning Mandarin Chinese," May 19- June 23; eight sessions of "Spanish Conversation I," June 2 - July 21; ten sessions of "German Conversation I," May 19 - June 23; and "Beginning Italian Conversation," May 19- June 23. For the first time Mercer will offer eight sessions of "Basic Sign Language," May 6- June 24, and "Spanish for Travelers," May 13 - July 8.

Creativity is guaranteed to blossom with several new offerings. "Plein Air Painting," a six-session workshop, runs from May 31 - July 12; "Making a Glass Square Dinner Plate," meets on May 20, and the three-session "Enhancing Digital Photos" meets Thursdays, July 17 - 31.

With the slumping housing market, area residents will benefit from courses such as "How to Buy Foreclosed Properties" on June 7; "Homebuying for Beginners," May 22 - June 5; and "Staging Your Home to Sell," July 8. Other personal finance courses include "Improving and Fixing Your Credit," May 20 - 27 and "Stock Options Workshops I and II, July 16 - July 7 and July 21 - 28.

Since warm weather and flowers go hand in hand, several new courses at MCCC's Horticulture Greenhouse are sure to further enhance one's creative touch. The fun begins with "Wedding Bouquets" on May 28, followed by "Trends for Party Florals" on June 3, and "Flowers for Cake Decorating and Garnishing" on June 17. Other new offerings include "High Style Arrangements Using Tropical Flowers" on June 25 and "Creating Gourmet Gift Baskets" on July 16.

Those with a knack for games will enjoy "Bridge for Real Beginners" or "Intermediate Bridge," May 30 and June 27. For those who want to learn about relaxation techniques and explore self-fulfillment, a four-session course called "Massage for Relaxation" meets May 20 - June 10, and a one-session workshop, "The Four Agreements: Exploring Attitudes and Feelings" meets June 5.
