"Careers in Aviation" Open House April 19
Mercer County Community College invites anyone curious about learning to fly or working in aviation to an open house, “Careers in Aviation,” on Tuesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. at the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
“The job prospects for entry-level pilots at regional airlines are outstanding,” says Professor Joseph Blasenstein, coordinator of the Mercer’s Aviation Programs.
At the open house faculty members will present an overview of the college’s aviation programs, including the “Aviation Flight Technology” Program, which includes a commercial pilot certificate for single engine aircraft. A college alumnus now working as a pilot will speak about his experiences in the field.
Attendees will be invited to visit college facilities at Trenton-Mercer Airport, where the program’s ten aircraft are housed – seven Cessna 152s, two Cessna 172s, and one Retractable Cessna 172 RG.
“Mercer offers one of the only aviation programs in the region,” Blasenstein said. “This is an excellent place to start, as students save a lot of money compared to the university programs.” Many MCCC graduates transfer their credits to pursue a bachelor’s degree, going on to work as commercial pilots, flight instructors and employees of commuter airlines.
In addition to Flight Technology, Mercer also offers majors in Aviation Management and Aviation Customer Relations. Students eligible for the NJSTARS program may receive free tuition and flight fees. To qualify, students must graduate in the top 20% of their New Jersey high school class and enroll full-time.
