Literary and Art Works Solicited for
County Literary Journal

Area writers and artists are invited to submit their work for possible publication in The Kelsey Review, a Mercer County literary magazine. The review accepts short fiction, poetry, essays, brief excerpts of novels, black and white line drawings, and cartoons. According to Robin Schore, Kelsey Review editor and English professor at Mercer County Community College, the major requirements for inclusion are that the material be of high quality and that the writers or artists live or work in Mercer County, New Jersey.

The deadline for submissions is May 2, 2005. Fiction and essays should be limited to about 2,000 words. Poetry should be limited to no more than six pieces. Material can be on any topic but should not have been previously published.
Journal selections will be made by a four-person editorial board composed of Robin Schore; Luray Gross, a published poet who is "Poet in the Schools" for the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation; Ellen Jacko, English teacher at Allentown High School; and Robbie Clipper Sethi, English professor at Rider University, novelist, poet and short story writer. All those who submit material will be notified about a month after the deadline regarding inclusion in the journal, and will receive individual comments on their submissions.

Schore encourages all area writers and artists to submit their work. “Whether you are widely published or have been hiding your work for years, here’s a chance to share your talent with your neighbors. And if you are a secret writer and wonder whether you actually have any talent, we’ll let you know. We’ll even give you specific, constructive suggestions unless, of course, you ask us not to.”

Typed, double-spaced manuscripts should be sent to Robin Schore, editor, The Kelsey Review, Mercer County Community College, PO Box B, Trenton, NJ 08690. (The editorial board prefers hard copy submissions rather than e-mail.) A self-addressed, stamped envelope should be enclosed. Published annually in September, The Kelsey Review is distributed free at libraries and bookstores.

Funding for The Kelsey Review has been made possible in part by the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission through funding from the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and the New Jersey State Council for the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts."
