Scott Kent to be Honored as
"Alumnus of the Year"
Scott Kent of Hamilton is Mercer County Community College's "Alumnus of the Year" for 2003, announced President Robert Rose. "Scott exemplifies how education can change a person's life, even after years in the workforce," Rose said. "He has made a commitment to continued learning and achievement."
Kent will be honored at the college's Scholarship Dinner Dance on March 8 at the Hyatt Regency, Princeton. He earned his associate degree with honors from Mercer in 1999, when he was regional area manager for Wawa. In November Kent was promoted to director of cash management, credit and point of sale for the chain's 550 stores
While he originally attended MCCC to earn a noncredit certificate, Kent
moved into a credit program, then continued at Immaculata College where he
earned a bachelor's degree. Now he is enrolled in a master's program
at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. "I always believed in building
a solid foundation, and that is what Mercer did for me," Kent said.
"Mercer also gave me the courage to move ahead." Kent plans to continue
his education after he earns his master's degree.
Wawa, a longtime supporter of the college's scholarship program, will continue its support in 2003 as a corporate sponsor of the dinner dance, to feature "The Golden Oldies," of the 1950s. For more information contact Bill Mate, Dean of College Advancement, at 609-586-4800 ext. 3601.
