Team Up With Celebrity Chef Cat Cora for June 2 Event

5/12/10

Pictured preparing treats at a college event are MCCC hospitality students Jenny Peterson, Bob Vowell, MCCC Instructor Chef Frank Benowitz, and student Tom Marquart.

West Windsor, NJ – Mercer County Community College’s (MCCC) hospitality students, with instructor Chef Frank Benowitz, will prepare one of Iron Chef Cat Cora’s popular recipes as she makes an appearance locally, coinciding with the publication of her new book, Cat Cora’s Classics With A Twist. The presentation takes place on Wednesday, June 2, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at The Hamilton Manor on Route 156 in Hamilton.

A portion of the proceeds of the celebrity chef’s appearance will benefit MCCC’s Hospitality Club, along with the Friends’ Health Connection, a non-profit health and wellness education organization. MCCC’s Student Government Association is an event co-sponsor. Noted for her philanthropy, Cora is president and founder of Chefs for Humanity, an organization that she established in response to the 2004 Tsunami disaster.

Both on and off screen, Cora’ career is marked with achievements. In 2005, she became the first and only female Iron Chef on Food Network’s Iron Chef America. The following year she was named executive chef of Bon Appétit and received their Teacher of the Year Award. Inspired by her own unique, global barbeque traditions, Cora launched Cat Cora’s Que (CCQ) at Macy’s new Signature Kitchen restaurant in California’s South Coast Plaza location in 2008. Last year, she opened Kouzzina (Greek for “kitchen”) at Walt Disney World’s Boardwalk Resort, which offers Mediterranean-style cuisine that pays tribute to her Greek roots. She has also authored two additional cookbooks.

MCCC’s Hospitality Club is made up of students enrolled in a variety of college programs, including Hotel Restaurant and Institution Management, Catering Management, Chef Apprenticeship, Professional Baking and Professional Cooking. Club members lend their culinary expertise to many charitable events throughout the year.

Tickets to the event are $39 per person and include a copy of Cora’s new book as well as the recipe tasting. Tickets are available through Kelsey Theatre at 609-570-3333, or online at www.kelseytheatre@mccc.org.
