MCCC President Patricia Donohue, PASS Director Khalida Haqq, and James Kerney Campus Registrar Margarita Leahy Awarded by the American Association for Women in Community Colleges


West Windsor, NJ: Mercer County Community College (MCCC) staff members were recently recognized with awards from the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC), established to recognize outstanding efforts by organization chapters nationwide. MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue of Hamilton was presented with the Carolyn Desjardins CEO of the Year Award for Outstanding Service and Support. Dr. Donohue is past president of the AAWCC. When presenting the award Dr. Cynthia A. Bioteau, AAWCC president said “Dr. Donohue has contributed time, energy, passion and leadership to the national board of AAWCC for more than two decades, serving in positions from regional director to president. She has supported the establishment of new AAWCC chapters and helped existing chapters in programming and service. She has served as a board member of the National Institute for Leadership Development . She has sponsored and mentored more than 50 women for national leadership training."

MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue and MCCC Registrar Margarita Leahy hold one of the awards the college received from the American Association for Women in Community Colleges.

Staff members Margarita Leahy of Lawrenceville, registrar at the James Kerney Campus, and Dr. Khalida Haqq of Trenton, director of Programs for Academic Services and Success, were presented with a Model Program award. They developed and implemented a mentoring program at MCCC called “Equip Women for Growth: A Peer to Peer Mentoring Program.” The nine-month initiative provides an opportunity for women to serve as mentors and mentees, to connect and to communicate ideas and information. “The mentoring curriculum provides the structure and flexibility for unique peer to peer relationships,” Leahy said. “Participants have a guide which helps them create professional goals and work on leadership skills.” More information about the AAWCC is available online at www.aawccnatl.org/
