Helicopter on Campus?
There are many ways to travel to a conference
at MCCC. On July 17 the Camden County sheriff parked a helicopter
on Mercer grounds as he came to a state sheriffs’ meeting at the
Conference Center. His colleagues, sheriffs in other counties,
were interested in seeing the helicopter, donated by the military,
in hopes of getting one of their own
A new landscaping plan is taking shape at
the Conference Center, designed by a group of MCCC horticulture
students in Amy Iseneker’s landscaping class. According
to Iseneker, the students designed individual plans and the final
plan is a combination that uses ideas from many of them.
Staffers recently planted beautiful perennials called Liriope in
front of the center. The border/edging grass is evergreen
with lavender flower spikes in summer. Coming soon will be a
burning bush hedge, a dwarf forsythia hedge, four ginko biloba trees,
a perennial garden and other shrubs. Liriope have also been planted
on the side of the Student Center around the outdoor eating area.
Some of the landscaping is being done this summer,
and there will be a second phase later

PTA Students Help Each Other
Students in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
program recently made a donation to an MCCC Foundation account,
the “Physical Therapist Assistant Fund.” The account grants
loans to PTA students/grads who need help paying for books or preparing
for their board exams. Barbara Behrens started the fund last
year. The voluntary contributions come from fundraisers such
as the “massage-a-thon.”
Lavar Peterson, PC support technician, and Latisha Morales
were married July 10. The couple is living in Hamilton.
The IT division held a celebration of the marriage recently, featuring
pizza and cake. Lavar would like to say “thank you to everyone
for all that you did.”

Gable's Mother Featured

in the Times of Trenton on July 24. She founded “LG Accessories”
after creating the “strap-mate,” a patented product used to position
bra straps firmly on the shoulders of its wearer. She holds
four patents for women’s accessories and was honored in 1999 by the
