Jennifer Hoernlein Earns CPA

Congratulations are in order as Jennifer Hoernlein recently received word that she passed all parts of the CPA exam. 
 

Mel Leipzig's Art Featured

Mel Leipzig's art is featured in a major article, "Defining the Subject with the Background," in the August 2003 edition of American Artist magazine.  Nine of Leipzig's color paintings are reproduced.
  

Runners/Volunteers Invited to Participate in 5K Run Sept. 12

The MCCC Alumni Association will host its second annual "5K Run and Fun Fest" on Friday evening, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m.  Mercer volunteers are needed to help make the event a success.  Job assignments include registering and checking in the runners, and manning water and mile-marker stops along the route.  Help may also be needed following the race when participants will enjoy a festive picnic dinner and music outside the Physical Education (PE) Center.  Registration and check-in begin at 5:15 p.m. outside PE.  Volunteers will be asked to report between 4:45 and 5 p.m.

For those interested in participating in the race, the USATF-certified course starts and ends outside the PE Center.  It follows two loops around the Mercer campus.  Walkers are welcome too.  The pre-registration fee is $20 until Sept. 5; after Sept. 5, registration is $25.  Tickets for the picnic only are $10.

Gift certificates will be awarded to top male and female finishers.  Prizes will also be given to the top three male and female runners in the following age groups: 19 & under, 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; and 60+.  T-shirts will be distributed to all registered participants and to race day registrants while supplies last. 

Race proceeds will benefit the MCCC Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund.  To volunteer for the race, call Elaine Stout at ext. 3607.  Race registration forms are available in the Physical Education Center Office or by visiting the MCCC website.

Free Staff Exercise Classes

There will be no exercise classes now through Sept 1.  The schedule for the following week is:
Sept. 2 – Tuesday- Aerobics
Sept 4 - Thursday- Pilates
 
Beginning the week of Sept. 8 the college is offering 3 classes:
Monday –  Toning with Rosemary
Tuesday – Aerobics with Helen
Thursday – Pilates with Jenn
 
Classes take place in PE 119 from noon to 12:45.

New Umbrella Tables

New outdoor tables with umbrellas have brightened up the campus this summer.  The tables have been installed in the eating area outside the Student Center and in the new Sept. 11 memorial garden.   "Similar tables have been very effective for our corporate clients at the Conference Center, and we wanted to make them available to facuty, staff and students," said Bill Mate.  See photo .


Walk NJ for CancerCare

Mercer County Park will be the site for CancerCare’s “Walk NJ” on Sept. 18  CancerCare offers counseling, support groups, information, educational programs and much more to patients and their families.  It is described as “the oldest and largest national nonprofit agency devoted to offering professional services.”  Registration is at 4:30 p.m. and walk begins at 5:30.  Prizes will be awarded for those who raise over $40.  Walkers are asked to gather sponsorships.  For more information go to www.cancercare.org.
