The MCCC Holiday Party 2004
One of Mercer's most successful holiday parties ever brought out a record number of participants on Dec. 17, according to committee chairperson Lynn Holl. Beautiful red and gold balloons and table decorations lent a festive backdrop to the event. The college's food services staffers again outdid themselves with a plentiful variety of delicious choices and a fabulous carving table. Committee members gave away dozens of door prizes.

"Everyone helped out," Holl said. "The maintenance staff worked to set everything up and take it all down. The committee worked very well together and everyone did a great job." Photos

Cable TV Airing Service Member Greetings
The college's cable TV station (Channel 23/26) will be airing holiday greetings from service men and women stationed overseas who are from five area counties: Mercer (6); Burlington (27); Middlesex (3); Monmouth (6); Hunterdon (1).
The greetings were provided by the Army & Air Force Hometown News Service, a field operating agency supporting the secretaries of the Army and Air Force. The service distributes the greetings free of charge to television and cable stations. The project was produced by Valarie Daniels and Elizabeth Mielnicki. Elizabeth, a 2004 Mercer graduate, also created the graphics and did the video editing.

The greetings aired last week and will continue to air Tuesday through Thursday, Dec 21 to 23, at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Union Celebrates at JKC
The James Kerney Campus hosted the annual holiday luncheon for the Federation of Secretarial, Clerical and Technical Employees (AFT Local 2319) on Dec. 15. Committee chairperson Barbara Pieslak said this was the first time to her knowledge that the event was held there, and the response was terrific. "It was fabulous," she said. "It was great teamwork. Everyone called me and volunteered to do things. I never worked with a group that gave such support."

The beautiful event featured mouth-watering food prepared by Center City Café culinary students who are in the Career Training Institute program, under Bill Johnston's direction. The students prepared everything from scratch including rosemary chicken, prime rib, pasta primavera, vegetable medley, cheesecake and other homemade desserts, fresh fruit platter and more.

Many areas of the college donated door prizes, including the culinary students, the Bookstore, Kelsey Theatre, College Advancement and the Provost's office. Everyone went home with a prize.

The committee members were: Jan Alu; Lucille McElhenny; Marie Mendez; Michele Palang; Joanne Rosso; Regina Eaton; Raquel Hernandez; Leonor Williams; Soam Cheddi; Marcy Beck; and Barbara Pieslak (chair). Photos (courtesy of Barbara Pieslak)
