College Assembly Aug. 22; New Location
The College Assembly on Aug. 22 will be in the Student Center cafeteria. Beginning at 9 a.m. there will be juice and coffee, with the meeting beginning at 9:45. Luncheon will follow.

Nursing Alumni Return
Despite their busy schedules, a group of 20 enthusiastic Nursing alumni gathered at the MCCC Conference Center on July 27 to discuss the founding of a Nursing alumni chapter. Some of their ideas for future exploration included suggesting enhancements to the Nursing curriculum, mentoring current students, suggesting courses to fulfill continuing education requirements, participating in a speaker’s bureau, providing workshops for colleagues and students, meeting for social events and career networking, speaking at student orientations, and developing a support group for new grads. New Women's Soccer Coach
Jodie Ricciardi will join the MCCC athletics staff as interim head coach for women's soccer. According to MCCC Athletics Director John Simone, Ricciardi has been part of the college's athletics network for a number of years. "We are pleased to have Jodie on board. She has extensive experience working with female college athletes and understands the role of athletics within the college's mission." More here.


Carmien Receives Two Awards
Ed Carmien received special recognition at the Science Fiction Research Association (SFRA)'s annual convention in Kansas City, Missouri, July 6-8. He received an award for his short story, "The Beautiful Accident," which won the Heinlein Centennial Short Fiction Writing Contest in the Professional Division. He also received the SFRA's 2007 Mary Kay Bray Award for his review of "Space Opera Renaissance." More here.

Attention Golfers -- MCCC Golf Classic Oct. 16
The MCCC Athletic Department will host its 16th Annual Golf Classic on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Mercer Oaks East Golf Course. Details here.


WWFM To Hold Membership Drive
The Fall 2007 WWFM Membership Campaign is scheduled for October 19 - 26. WWFM The Classical Network is listener-supported public radio, relying on financial support to bring classical music programming to the area. WWFM publishes a bi-monthly Member Magazine available with a yearly contribution of $50 or more. Financial contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.

Volunteers are also needed. WWFM membership volunteers help to keep things running smoothly during pledge campaigns, most importantly by answering listener telephone calls. They promise that you'll meet new friends and enjoy a cup of good coffee. Call (609) 587-8989. More here.

Literacy Conference Coming to MCCC
Mercer County's Workforce Investment Board and MCCC will host the 2007 Literacy Best Practices Conference on Oct. 16 at the college's Conference Center. A wide array of workshops will be offered. Cost is $50. For information visit www.mccc.edu/literacy.

Food Network Chef Coming to MCCC
Chef Robert Irvine will be coming to MCCC on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. to present a lecture and demonstration in CM 110. With a $35 registration fee, participants will receive a copy of the chef's newly published book that he will personally sign. For more information contact Frank Benowitz at benowitf@mccc.edu.
