Testing Center in New Quarters; Open House Planned
Mercer's Testing Center has moved to new quarters in LB 209, located on the Library's second floor behind the new bookstore, and just beyond the Learning Center. According to Lynne Nelson, manager of external testing and operations, the Testing Center administered more than 79,000 exams in the past fiscal year. The Center provides placement, faculty, and distance-learning testing. "While we are a service to our students and faculty, we also provide additional services. Students who take online courses at other institutions pay MCCC a fee to use our proctoring services. We also have contracts with state licensing boards as well as other vendors. This helps to generate income for MCCC while making us visible to the community for prospective students.

The center will host an open house on August 26 and will be closed for testing that day in order to give tours to faculty and staff. The Open House will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and then again after the College Assembly until 4:30 p.m. Staff members will be available to answer questions. Photos here.

Camp College Adds New Programs, Sees Increase in Campers
So, what exactly are all those little children doing here this summer? Mercer's largest summer camp program, Camp College, has responded to increasing demand by adding more than 20 classes this summer in popular areas such as video making, video gaming, pottery making, fashion design and interior design. In the Aqua Adventure course, children are learning kayaking, canoeing and sailing at a site in Toms River. Popular programs for teens include Advanced HTML and a money management course called Money Matters.

Enrollment is up this year although final statistics are not in. Camp Director Rose Fiorello says Mercer's camp is more affordable than several others in the area.
