Party Enjoyed by All
As always, Mercer knows how to throw
a party! Approximately 325 staff and faculty members got together for
a fantastic celebration on Dec. 20. A varied selection of special food
was prepared by the college's staff under the direction of Jackie Dunn,
Bill Downs and Filomena Vasta. Goodies were sent to the James Kerney Campus
for those who couldn't make it to West Windsor.
(Frank Benowitz), The Grinch (Ken Hunt), The Mercer Viking (Francis Paixao),
and Santa's Elf (Amy Foris) entertained, gave gifts and lent a festive
tone to the event.
Door prize donations came from Kelsey Theatre (tickets), the Hospitality
program's student restaurant (brunch tickets), Amy Iseneker (a floral
arrangement), the MCCC Bookstore (gift certificate), and the Center for
Continuing Studies (a noncredit course).
Creative committee members included Jose Fernandez, Kitty Getlik, Michael
Glass, Martha Gunning, Donna Richardson-Hall, Nancy Sobala, Debbie Stotland,
Elaine Stout, Dot Walton, Erika Worthy, and Rosanne Zarrilli.
thanks to Colleen Courtney for organizing a rousing rendition of "The
Twelve Days of Christmas," sung
with enthusiasm by a large group of volunteers -- some wearing feathers
and wings. The deep tones of Don Jones' voice rang out loud and clear,
and elicited cheers.
Achieves Impressive Results
Television degree program's Dec. 14 telethon raised more than $2200 for
Mercer Street Friends, demonstrating once again that the community cares
-- and the community does watch MCTV!
Accolades from a TV Program alumnus:
"I'm a Mercer
alum from the Class of '85, that attended MCCC for its Television program.
For the past 20 years I've worked in the New York metro broadcasting
and corporate communications markets. I just took a look at the enews
links to the Mercer Street Friends projects, and they look and sound
great, and are well produced. More importantly, they communicate something
of value -- unlike the growing trend in commercial television.
It's nice to see
MCCC's Television program thrive. Kudos to the department and those
who put together the enews for creating the clean, functional links
to these purposeful projects." Larry Kaltenbach, class of 1985
for Tots Drive a Success
Kelsey Theatre conducted a successful gift drive for Toys for Tots,
with generous donations from throughout the campus. "We managed to
fill both of the boxes that they supplied to us which makes me
very happy," said Amy Foris.
In addition, the Kelsey
Theatre staff, advisory board members and a few friends of the theatre
sponsored several children at HomeFront for Christmas, and donated other
items for the organization's needy families. Photos
Education Student Conducts Gift Drive
As part of a Future Teacher's Club event, MCCC student Victoria Echeverri
and her daughters conducted a gift drive for children of Trenton's Joyce
Kilmer Elementary School. "My daughter said, 'Why not do something
for local children?' We delivered 102 nice packages to cover all
the sixth graders plus their six teachers," she said. "In addition,
we had enough supplies to give the rest of the 575 students one dozen
pencils, one dozen pens, and a pencil sharpener. Gifts also went to other
