TRENTON -- The chairman of the West Windsor planning board has been sworn in as the newest member of the Mercer County Community College board of trustees.

Marvin Gardner, a retired lawyer, joined the board after being sworn in by Mercer County Executive Brian M. Hughes on May 3.

In addition to his work as a lawyer, Gardner worked as a teacher for New York City schools from 1957 to 1965. He also was an adjunct business law professor at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York.

"I welcome the opportunity because I've always had a commitment to education," Gardner said yesterday.

Gardner noted the community college offers a strong opportunity for students preparing for four-year colleges, as well as specialized training.

Gardner will serve on the board's operation committee, which works on college policies. He also serves on West Windsor's senior transportation task force.
