Three NJSTARS Students Serve as Ambassadors

Three MCCC students were among those from 19 community colleges in New Jersey who attended Ambassadors’ Day in Trenton in early March. They had the opportunity to meet with legislators to discuss the importance of the NJ STARS program to their education and career goals.

NJ STARS is a community college tuition assistance program for students who graduate in the top 15 percent of their high school class.

Mercer students attended the event with MCCC President Patricia C. Donohue and Diane Rizzo, associate professor of English and advisor for the NJ STARS club at the college.

Adrian Olmeda, who anticipates earning his associate’s degree from Mercer this summer, intends to continue at Carnegie Mellon University, where he hopes to earn his master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Alexa Beyer, who expects to graduate from Mercer this fall, hopes to pursue a degree in Fine Arts or Art Education.  Fatou Diaw is looking to graduate from Mercer next spring, and will then major in either chemistry or biology at a state school.
