MCCC softball pitcher Kaley Wise was named to the NJCAA All-American Third Team.

WEST WINDSOR – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) softball pitcher Kaley Wise cemented her reputation as one of the top Division II pitchers in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) last week with her selection as a Third-Team All-American.

“Kaley was a true leader, on the mound, at the plate, and in the dugout,” said MCCC Head Coach Ryan Zegarski. “She is the complete player, and the consummate teammate.”

Wise, a Hamilton resident and graduate of Steinert High School, dominated on the mound throughout the season, ranking among the tops in the nation in multiple statistical categories. She ranked ninth in the nation in shutouts with five, 10th nationally with a 1.54 earned run average, 13th in strikeouts with 159, 21st in wins with 16, and 26th in complete games with 17.

Wise was also a threat at the plate, hitting .309 for the season, slugging .515 and driving in 22. She also hit four home runs, including a three-run shot in the bottom of the sixth in the final game of the Region 19 tournament, with Mercer trailing 2-1, to claim the championship. As a pitcher, Wise got the win in all three games in the Region 19 Tournament.

“Kaley got the big hit when we needed it the most, and then came to the hill to sit down the side,” Zegarski said. “You can’t ask anything more from a team leader. This national recognition is well-deserved.”

Wise, a sophomore, will graduate from Mercer this summer and will continue her softball career at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia.
