'The Women of Wall Street' is Topic of MCCC Lecture Feb. 8

01/23/18

Dr. George Robb

Dr. George Robb, author of three books and professor at William Paterson University, will discuss the first generation of women investors on Wall Street during a lecture at Mercer County Community College Feb. 8.

WEST WINDSOR – Long before “The Wolf of Wall Street,” the women of Wall Street were making their mark in the financial services industry. Their story will be the topic of an upcoming lecture at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Feb. 8, led by an historian and author on the subject.

Dr. George Robb will deliver the lecture “The Pioneering Women of Wall Street” at noon on Thursday, Feb. 8 in the Communications Building, Room 109. His talk is part of MCCC’s spring 2018 Distinguished Lecture Series at the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Robb will discuss the first generation of women investors and stockbrokers, from the 1870s to the 1920s. Even though these pioneers are largely forgotten by historians, Robb will offer his own perspective on how these daring women blazed financial trails and sparked public outcries over the suitability of women working in the rough-and-tumble world on the trading floor of the nation’s stock exchanges.

Robb has served as a professor at William Paterson University for more than 20 years, and is the author of three books, most recently Ladies of the Ticker: Women and Wall Street, From the Gilded Age to the Great Depression.
