WEST WINDSOR – Objectivity in today’s media environment is all about perspective, and sometimes a fresh voice is required to bring that perspective into focus.

“Bringing Your Own Seat to the Table: ‘Black Nerd Problems’ and Creating a Diverse Media Outlet” is the title of a lecture by Omar Holomon and William Evans at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) at noon on Thursday, Oct. 4 in the Communications Building, Room 109. Their talk is part of MCCC’s fall 2018 Distinguished Lecture Series at the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Holomon and Evans, founders of the website Black Nerd Problems, will discuss how they identified a need and set out to establish an inclusive and diverse online community to help steer familiar conversations in more accessible ways. Their website serves as a platform for the discussion of all manners of pop culture, including television, movies, comic books, and anime from their own unique perspective. The website has grown to more than 100,000 followers.

Holomon and Evans launched Black Nerd Problems in May of 2014 to focus on “nerd and geek culture” from the perspective of people of color. As culture critics on everything from comics to movies and beyond, Black Nerd Problems has emerged to the forefront of diversified journalism in the pop culture genre.
