Fifth Annual MCCC Culinary Tasting Benefit to Feature Fine Food from Area Restaurants Nov. 7; Tickets on Sale Now

10/11/18

During 2017’s Culinary Tasting, MCCC's Garde Manger students wowed the crowd with their delicious cold salmon and side dishes.

The 2017 scholarship recipient, Lyne Simpson (pictured with tray), was selected for her award-winning ube cupcakes inspired by her Phillipino background. West Windsor, N.J. – A community feast is in store as the Mercer County Community College (MCCC) Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management (HRIM) program prepares to host its Fifth Annual Culinary Tasting Benefit.

The event, which supports MCCC students studying Culinary Arts, will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, 6 to 8 pm., in the Student Center Cafeteria on the West Windsor Campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Central Jersey food enthusiasts will enjoy dishes prepared by chefs from some of the area’s finest restaurants, including some that are owned and/or staffed by alumni of Mercer's HRIM program.

All proceeds will benefit the Chef Anne Lumberger and Chef Shari Widmayer Pastry Arts Memorial Scholarship Fund. A scholarship will be announced at the event and presented to the award-winning MCCC pastry student(s).

“Each year, we gratefully welcome area restaurateurs who give so generously of their time and talents,” says MCCC culinary instructor Frank Benowitz, who helps to organize the event. “Our guests have a wonderful time sampling a wide variety of dishes ranging from appetizers to entrees to desserts. It has become a much anticipated tasting event, one that raises significant funds for student scholarships.”

Among the participating restaurants are Fenwick Hospitality Group (Princeton), HeyReyla (Asbury Park), Small World Coffee (Princeton), Blend/Brother’s Pizza (Hamilton), Princeton Wegmans, Nassau Inn (Princeton), Terra Momo Bread Company, Trattoria Procaccini (Princeton), Capra Farms (Waterford Works), Jersey Girl Café (Hamilton), Palace of Asia and The Gingered Peach (Lawrenceville).

The event will also feature several tables of delectable dishes prepared by MCCC culinary and pastry students, along with dishes prepared by the Academy of Culinary Arts (Mercer County Technical Schools).

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a silent auction and raffle drawing for gift certificates and other items donated by participating organizations.

The cost is $50 for general admission and $35 for MCCC alumni, faculty and students. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance. Tickets can be purchased on the Kelsey Theatre website here or in person at the Kelsey Theatre box office, located on the West Windsor Campus.
