Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri to Deliver Lecture on Human Trafficking at MCCC March 20

03/13/18

Angelo Onofri

Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Angelo Onofri will address human trafficking during a lecture at Mercer County Community College March 20.

WEST WINDSOR – President Barack Obama defined human trafficking as “a debasement of common humanity” and “modern slavery.” On March 20, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri will bring the topic closer to home during a lecture at Mercer County Community College (MCCC).

“Human Trafficking: Modern Slavery” is the topic of an upcoming lecture by Onofri at MCCC on Tuesday, March 20, at noon in the Communications Building, Room 107. His talk is part of MCCC’s spring 2018 Distinguished Lecture Series at the West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Onofri will explore who human traffickers are, who the victims are, and how victims are coerced and controlled. The lecture will also address the business of human trafficking and human trafficking in Mercer County, including the recent arrest and conviction of Breion Turner, who pleaded guilty last month to holding a 17-year-old runaway hostage and forcing her to engage in prostitution.

In addition to the sex trade, Onofri will explore human trafficking in the labor and farming industry.

Onofri was sworn in as Mercer County prosecutor on Dec. 28, 2016, after being appointed by Gov. Chris Christie and unanimously confirmed by the New Jersey Senate. He served as acting prosecutor since March 2015. Onofri graduated from Rutgers University and the Eagleton Institute of Politics and earned his law degree from Villanova University. He is also a graduate of the FBI’s Mid-Atlantic Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar.
