Three-Sport Athlete Mani Rivera-Kissling Honored at National Women in Sports Day

2/22/17

Mani Rivera-Kissling was MCCC's representative at the National Women in Sports Day Luncheon held Jan. 29 at Seton Hall University.

Rivera-Kissling, front left, was a leader for the women's cross country team that won its first Region 19 championship this fall.

West Windsor, N.J. – Taymani (Mani) Rivera-Kissling, a three-sport athlete at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), was honored on January 29 for her dedication to Vikings sports.

Rivera-Kissling was MCCC's representative at the National Association for Girls and Women in Sports Day Luncheon hosted in New Jersey by the Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC). The luncheon and ceremony were held at Seton Hall University prior to a Seton Hall women’s basketball game.

A graduate of Steinert High School, Rivera-Kissling was a member of the MCCC women’s soccer team in 2014 and 2015, earning All-GSAC First Team and All-Region Second Team honors both seasons. She played one season of women's basketball in 2015.

Rivera-Kissling ended her Mercer career in yet a third sport this past fall, her final semester at the college. She was a member of the women’s cross country team, where she was one of the squad's top runners. The Vikings won their first Region 19 championship in program history, with Rivera-Kissling placing sixth in the race. She earned All-Region Honors in cross country. The team advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship in Kansas, where Rivera-Kissling also participated.

Rivera-Kissling graduated in December with a degree in Liberal Arts and has transferred to Monmouth University. She noted that her participation in athletics enhanced her Mercer experience immeasurably.

“Mercer gave me so many opportunities," Rivera-Kissling said. "Each sport I played gave me a chance to make new friends and have new experiences. Sports taught me balance and teamwork. Mercer opened a lot of doors for me. I was recognized for my hard work, which makes me want to work even harder.”
