Dennis Brady

Pitcher Dennis Brady led the nation in ERA, and was second in wins and third in strikeouts. He was named NJCAA World Series Pitcher of the Tournament, an NJCAA Division II All-American, and was selected in the seventh round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

WEST WINDSOR – Post-season accolades continue to come in for the Mercer County Community College (MCCC) baseball team, with two players being named as first-team Division II All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Vikings pitcher Dennis Brady and catcher Anthony Peroni were both first team selections. Mercer and Jones County (MS) Community College were the only schools to place two players on the squad.

“Mercer baseball is very proud of both Anthony and Denny for their First Team All-American awards,” said MCCC Baseball Head Coach Kevin Kerins. “Both players are very deserving. They were the heart and soul of our program this season.”

Both players provided significant contributions to an historic season for Mercer baseball, culminating with an appearance in the national championship game in Enid, Okla. Brady and Peroni were named Region 19 Pitcher of the Year and Player of the Year, respectively, and both were selected during the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft.

Brady led all Division II pitchers in the nation with a 0.96 earned run average. He was tied for second nationally with 11 wins, and was third in strikeouts with 118 in 84 innings. He was named Pitcher of the Tournament for the Division II NJCAA World Series, and was selected in the seventh round (205th overall) in the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Peroni, a Steinert High School graduate, was selected in the 14th round of the MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. The Vikings catcher hit .401 on the season with 15 home runs, 57 runs batted in, and 75 hits, including 24 doubles.

The Vikings baseball team capped off a 2017 season that included several firsts, including back-to-back trips to the NJCAA Division II World Series, first appearance in the national championship game, first time to repeat as Region 19 and Northeast District champions, and a school record 80 home runs. The team ended the season as national runner up, falling to Kankakee Community College in the championship game.
