West Windsor, N.J. – Mercer County Community College's (MCCC's) men's soccer team has released its 2017 schedule. The Vikings are hoping to regain the Region 19 title and their national ranking after a disappointing 9-6-2 season in 2016. The team has ten home games, including a Sept. 20 matchup against Monroe College (Bronx, NY), which advanced to the Division I National Championship game in 2016 and finished the regular season ranked second in the nation.

The Vikings open the season on Tuesday, Aug. 22. at Middlesex County College. Their home opener is Wednesday, Aug. 30 vs. Bergen Community College. The final home game will be played Oct. 17 vs. Kingsborough Community College (NY). The Region 19 playoffs begin on Saturday, Oct. 21. This year's regional tournament willl be hosted by Harcum College on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Mercer faces two Region 19 opponents at home: Harcum College on Saturday, Sept. 30 and Manor College on Saturday, Oct. 7. Three other important Region 19 contests include road trips to Lackawanna on Saturday, Sept. 16, Essex County College on Saturday, Sept. 23, and Rowan at Burlington on Wednesday, Sept. 27. (Burlington was last year’s Region 19 champion.)

Also on the schedule are two overnight trips. The first is to upstate New York to play Genesee Community College on Saturday, Aug. 26, followed by a game on Sunday, Aug. 27 at traditional powerhouse Monroe Community College (Rochester). Mercer's second overnight trip comes late in the regular season, when the Vikings travel to Maryland to take on CCBCC-Catonsville on Friday, Oct. 13 and CCBC-Essex on Saturday, Oct. 14.

The Vikings can expect some highly competitive contests. Notable matchups include a home game on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Massasoit Commmunity College (MA), which advanced to the National Tournament in 2015, after reaching the Northeast District Championship hosted by Mercer. The Vikings will also play Camden County College in a Sept. 6 home game. Camden was ranked second in Division III Men’s Soccer last season and advanced to the Division III National Championship game. In an away game to be played at Monroe (Bronx) on Sept. 8, Mercer faces Eastern Florida State College (formerly Brevard Community College), which was ranked eighth in Division II men’s soccer last season. Mercer will travel back to New York on Sept. 13 to play ASA, which won the 2015 District Championship.

The Vikings are led by Tigana Dalce, who is entering his sixth season as Mercer's head coach. Dalce will be assisted by Harris Abawi, John Pietrowski and Milton Suah.
