HENNIKER, N.H. – Former Mercer County Community College (MCCC) softball standout Brianna Castellano has been making her presence known in New England, having recently been named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week.

Castellano, a graduate of Hamilton West High School and currently a student at New England College, is off to a hot start for the Pilgrims, who opened the 2017 season in Florida. Through the team’s first 12 games, Catellano hit .513, going 20 for 39 with 10 RBI and seven runs scored. She hit safely in 11 of those games, and was perfect in the field on 17 plays.

“Bri is a fierce competitor and the ultimate team player,” said MCCC softball coach Ryan Zegarski. “She is one of the nicest kids I have ever been around and coached.”

Last year Castellano played in all 42 games for New England, finishing fourth on the team in batting average at .328. She was second in runs scored with 31.

In addition, Castellano excelled in the classroom and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American Scholar Athlete honors. The award goes to players with a 3.5 GPA or higher. Castellano was one of an impressive nine Pilgrim players to earn this honor.

While at Mercer, Castellano was a two-time First Team All-Region 19 outfielder and First Team All Garden State Athletic Conference selection. Mercer softball reached the Region 19 Championship in 2013 and 2014, with Castellano starting in the outfield both seasons.
