Volunteers Needed for Student 'Welcome Back' Event, Aug. 28-29
From Danielle Garruba, Student Life and Leadership: The Student Life and Leadership Department has planned another exciting and educational “Welcome Back Event” for our students! The event will be held in SC104 on Aug. 28-29, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.The event will be spearheaded by Student Life and Leadership and the Student Government Association. However, this is a college-wide effort and we are asking for faculty and staff to commit at least one hour out of their week to help cover SC104. This will help our students to have a seamless start to the semester and truly feel welcomed into our college community. We would greatly appreciate if you could assist with this process. Gallery Opens Season With Faculty Exhibit Aug. 28; Reception Aug. 30
The Gallery at Mercer shines the spotlight on its own talented faculty for the 2017 Visual Arts Faculty Exhibit. The show runs from Monday, Aug. 28 through Thursday, Sept. 28. The community is invited to an opening reception on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Read more here.

‘Memphis’ Makes Rock and Roll History at Kelsey Theatre Sept. 8-17
The curtain comes up on a new season at Kelsey Theatre with “Memphis,” which runs Sept. 8-17. Presented by PinnWorth Productions, this hit Broadway musical offers up a dramatized account of the roots of rock and roll and radio’s role in embracing the new sounds that transformed the country. A reception with the cast and crew follows the opening night performance. Read more here.

Golf Classic to Benefit Student Athletes is Oct. 2
MCCC invites friends and supporters of the college’s student athletes to hit the links on Monday, Oct. 2 for the Haldeman Auto Group Golf Classic for MCCC Scholarships, co-hosted by the Athletics Department. Read more here.

MCCC Video Series Leads Visitors in the Right Direction
For those who are new to MCCC -- whether they are new students, prospective students and their families, new faculty and staff, or other visitors -- a series of videos will help lead them in the right direction. The series of 12 video shorts was unveiled in the spring and is particularly beneficial as students arrive for the start of classes on Monday. Read more here.

A Voice for Adult Students, MCCC Grad Patricia Rodgers Heads to RU
There was a time for Patricia Rodgers, ’17 (A.S., Information Technology), when her decades-old associate degree from the Fashion institute of Technology was enough to get her where she wanted to go, but when she returned to the workforce after raising her son, Rodgers found it was no longer enough. When she decided to shift her career to the Information Technology field, Rodgers said it was at first a little scary to return to the classroom, but MCCC proved to be the perfect place to start. MCCC Announces Start of Men’s Lacrosse Program, Appoints Coach
The Athletics Department has announced the appointment of Robert Siris, former head coach of lacrosse at Hopewell Valley Central High School, as the coach of a new men’s lacrosse program to start at MCCC. The first phase of the new program will be player recruitment, which Siris will oversee during the 2017-18 academic year. The first full season for this new intercollegiate team will be Spring 2019. Men's Soccer Team Opens Season Saturday; Women at Home Tuesday
The Vikings men's and women's soccer teams have been on the field preparing for challenging seasons. The first contests for the men's team are this weekend in Rochester, NY, when the Vikings face Genesee on Saturday and Monroe on Sunday. The team opens at home against Bergen CC Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. See Facebook photos of the team on the practice field here. New MyMercer App. Students now have access to a new mobile app that provides anytime, anywhere access to helpful college information as well as features and services linked to their student account. Self-services include course browsing, class registration, academic advisement and planning, payments, and applying for graduation. They can check on tuition and fees status, explore and monitor financial aid, view class schedules, grades, and transcripts, and read MCCC news. There are also links to Facebook and Twitter, campus maps, directories, and the Student Handbook. Read about it on the website here.

2017-18 Catalogs Have Arrived. A limited quantity of the 2017-18 college catalog was delivered this week to key areas at both campuses. For restocking, contact Francis Paixao in Publications at ext. 3731. Please note that this year’s supply is very limited (just 500 printed), so please distribute minimally with discretion! Whenever possible, students should be directed to the most recent catalog editions online here.

New College Logo. Now that the 50th Anniversary year is over, the college has retired the special logo designed for that year. The new logo in several formats and sizes can be downloaded from M-Link here, along with templates for letterhead, faxes and memos.
