Final Weekend for 'Unnecessary Farce' at Kelsey Theatre
The belly laughs continue as The Pennington Players present the final three performances of "Unnecessary Farce" at Kelsey Theatre Jan. 27 to 29. Seven actors deliver rapid-fire dialogue and take some pratfalls for the cause in this show that combines classic farce with a modern American tale. Read more here.

Exercise Classes Begin Monday
It's time to get moving. Exercise classes for staff and students resume Monday, Jan. 30. Yoga classes are held every Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in PE 225 and every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the gym. Comfortable clothing and a yoga mat are all that are required to enjoy stretching and strengthening with our excellent instructors (including our very own Helen Tanzini on Wednesdays). Every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., you can "join the party" in the gym for Zumba with Colleen. Hope to see you there! (Note that there will be no classes during Spring Break week.) Classes end May 3.

Black History Month Kicks Off Feb. 1 at Kerney Campus
The opening ceremony for MCCC's Black History Month observance takes place Wednesday, Feb. 1 in Kerney Hall at the James Kerney Campus, starting at noon. Keynote speaker is Pastor Sadrail Saint-Ulysse, superintendent of Seventh Day Adventist Schools. His talk is entitled "The Power of Education." Students, staff and community members are welcome. Lunch will be served. More Black History Month events will be announced next week.

Athletics Department Partners with YWCA for 'Think Pink' Feb. 2
On Thursday, Feb. 2, the Athletics Department will partner with the Breast Cancer Resource Center (BCRC) of the Princeton-YWCA for the seventh annual "Think Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Night." The event is held in conjunction with MCCC’s women’s and men’s basketball games against Brookdale. The women's game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7 p.m. The night will feature raffle prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes include tickets to Princeton University men’s and women’s basketball games, tickets to the musical Big Fish at Kelsey Theatre, gift certificates to Central Perk Bagels, Casear’s Bagels & Deli, Carella’s Shoes and Hallmark, a gift card to the MCCC Bookstore, a gift basket and gift certificate from 33 Barbershop, and jewelry from CLEB Originals. College Catalog Updates Are Due Feb. 3
The 2017-2018 College Catalog is now in production, with content review and updates being solicited college-wide. Anyone with updates to contribute should contact the point person (dean, director, supervisor, coordinator, etc.) for the area involved. That person likely received direct notification for submitting any revisions for their area. For further assistance, contact Brad Kent in Publications at ext. 3772 or kentb@mccc.edu.

Jurying for Mercer County Artists Takes Place Feb. 11
Calling artists who live, work or study in Mercer County. You are invited to submit art for consideration for the “Mercer County Artists 2017” exhibition, presented at the MCCC Gallery in partnership with the Mercer County Cultural & Heritage Commission. Submission and jurying take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artists may enter up to two original works completed since Feb. 2016 in any media except photography. Drop-off is between 9:30 a.m. and noon. More here.

Free Mammograms to be Offered Through CentraState Feb. 28
CentraState Medical Center and VNAHG are offering free breast exams and mammograms on Tuesday, Feb. 28 starting at 5:15 p.m. Women must meet the following criteria: must be a New Jersey resident, must meet financial eligibility requirements, and must be uninsured. Security Systems Technology Program Promises 'Secure' Jobs
The new Security Systems Technology Program, coordinated by IT faculty member Jeff Weichert and presented in partnership with the Security Industry Association, is offering four courses this spring in a state-of-the-art, hands-on lab at the James Kerney Campus. With starting salaries estimated at $60,000, the program is expected to provide graduates with a direct pathway to the workforce.The first class begins Friday, Feb. 3. Read more here.

Baseball Team Ranked No. 3 Nationally in Pre-Season Poll
The MCCC baseball team has not started its season yet, but pre-season predictions are giving the Vikings a big thumbs-up. Polls conducted by the National Junior College Athletic Association have placed Mercer baseball no. 3 in Div. II. According to Head Coach Kevin Kerins, now the hard work to meet those expectations begins. More here.

PlayFest 2017 Seeks Your Scripts!
In celebration of 50 years of supporting the arts in Mercer County, MCCC's Playfest 2017 is seeking new plays from writers who live, work or study in Mercer County. PlayFest will be held March 10 to 12 at Kelsey Theatre. Submissions will be accepted through Feb. 28. Details here or by emailing PlayFest2017@mccc.edu.

Alumni Success: Kathryn Kingsley
Kathryn Kingsley '12 (A.S., Chemistry; A.S., Biology) got started on her college degree a little later than some, but since then, has progressed at an impressive pace. She is currently a lab technician at Rutgers--New Brunswick and credits Mercer faculty and staff with giving her the support and intellectual challenges she needed to succeed. “They helped to shape my experience and direction,” Kingsley said.
