JKC to Host MLK Celebration Jan. 16
The college community is invited to a celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 16, 2-4 p.m. in Kerney Hall on the James Kerney Campus. The theme of the event, "The Power of Education: Then, Now, and Tomorrow," features keynote speaker Dr. Pam Pruitt, Director of Multicultural Affairs at Rider University. See the flyer here. Center for Continuing Studies 'Smart Start' Series Begins Jan. 17
If you know someone considering a career in the healthcare field, be sure and pass along that the Center for Continuing Studies will launch its free Smart Start sessions Jan. 17 to Feb. 1. Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the James Kerney Campus. The class is designed for individuals who are considering a career in the healthcare industry, providing instruction in math, medical terminology, and learning skills unique to healthcare professions. Not Too Late to Sign Up for Spain Trip; Info Session Jan. 17
You can still sign up for the Study Tour to Spain, sponsored by the MCCC Center for Global Opportunities from May 20 to June 3. The trip includes accommodations with a Spanish family in Granada, a cooking class, a live Flamenco dance show, tapas tour, and an excursion to Cordoba. The program is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. The cost is $2,500 and includes airfare, meals, accommodations, health insurance, and tuition for SPA110 (three credits). An information session will be held Jan. 17, noon to 1 p.m. in LA125. Final payment is due Feb. 17. For the application procedure, click here. Questions? MCCC Invites Families to Camps Open House Jan. 22
MCCC invites families to a Summer Camps Open House on Sunday, Jan. 22, noon to 3 p.m., in the Student Center. (Snow date: Sunday, Jan. 29.) Directors will be on hand to provide overviews of all camp programs and answer questions about scheduling, staffing and pricing. Tours of MCCC's extensive facilities will be available, including computer labs, Olympic-size swimming pool, tennis courts, and cafeteria. More than 70 options are available for fun and enrichment during Summer 2017. The season begins June 19 and extends through August 18. Read more here.

Holocaust Center Launches Spring Program Jan. 24
The Mercer County Holocaust-Genocide Resource Center (HGRC) has announced its spring 2017 schedule of events, beginning with "Ravished Armenia: The Auction of Souls," 1919 film clip on the Armenian genocide, on Jan. 24. Other upcoming events include "The Karski Report" with Jan Karski, a Polish resistance member, talking about his experiences in World War II on Feb. 9; "Only a Number," a film by local filmmaker Steve Besserman that profiles his parents, survivors of the Holocaust; and "A Film Unfinished," raw footage from the Warsaw Ghetto, on Feb. 28. Visual Arts TA Kerri O'Neill Participating in NYC Art Exhibition
Visual Arts teaching assistant Kerri O'Neill will be participating in the "Nasty Women Art Exhibition," a group exhibition of more than 700 artists and a fund-raiser for womens' rights organizations, through Jan. 15 at The Knockdown Center, 52-19 Flushing Avenue, Maspeth, Queens. All artworks are $100 or less; 100 percent of proceeds will be donated. Read more here.

Call For College Catalog Updates; Due Feb. 3
The 2017-2018 College Catalog is now in production, with content review and updates being solicited college-wide. Anyone with updates to contribute should contact the point person (dean, director, supervisor, coordinator, etc.) for the area involved. That person likely received notification this week for submitting any revisions for their area. For further assistance, contact Brad Kent in Publications at ext. 3772 or kentb@mccc.edu.

Annual Report Now Available Online. "All In for Student Success" is the theme of the 2015-16 college and Foundation Annual Report, which includes highlights from the past year and features a number of students who had good things to say about their Mercer experience. For a look at this year's report, along with an archive of previous reports, click here.

Jan. 30: Exercise Classes Begin. You can get moving in January at the MCCC Fitness Center, following a holiday upgrade that includes equipment maintenance, painting and two new machines: an elliptical and a stationary bike. Staff ID is required for admittance. Yoga and zumba classes for students and staff begin the week of Jan. 30.
