TRENTON – Two of Mercer County Community College’s top students were honored May 4, joining the brightest and best from community colleges across the state during the New Jersey Council of County College’s (NJCCC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Day at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Trenton, when members of the PTK Academic All-Star team were announced.

Representing MCCC was Jasmina Biller of Princeton Junction and Jason Lima of Hamilton, selected based on grade point average, outstanding community service, leadership abilities, and recommendations from instructors.

“These students have demonstrated extraordinary resilience in getting where they are today,” said Dr. Jianping Wang, president of MCCC. “We are proud of their achievements, and we look forward to hearing more about their future accomplishments.”

Biller, an Education major who will graduate in December, said she plans on continuing her education with the goal of becoming a world language teacher. She is a local volunteer and the vice president of scholarship of for Mercer’s PTK chapter.

“I love being at Mercer, being a part of PTK, and being a part of the campus,” Biller said. “We are like a family.”

Lima, a Business Administration major, graduates this spring and plans to pursue a master’s degree. He is the vice president and former treasurer of the Global Business Club, treasurer of the PTK chapter, and a student ambassador for the American Honors program.

“I am learning what it takes to be successful in the business environment,” Lima said of his Mercer experience. “I like meeting people and I like making connections – with fellow students, with professors, and with business professionals.”

Each year the NJCCC hosts the event to recognize the state’s 40 best community college students as members of the New Jersey All-State Academic Team. The event is sponsored by PTK, the international honor society for community colleges, the Coca-Cola Foundation, and the New Jersey Education Association.
