Mercer County Community College Launches New Cloud-Based Software Platform to Enhance Student Services

Mercer County Community College President Dr. Jianping Wang and Ellucian President and CEO Jeff Ray provide an overview of MCCC’s migration to cloud-based computer technology.

WEST WINDSOR – Mercer County Community College (MCCC) is taking the lead in enhanced student services as the first college in the nation to launch a new cloud-based software delivery system, Colleague SaaS (Software-as-a-Service), in cooperation with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Ellucian, a nationwide leader in higher education technology services.

MCCC recently launched this first phase of this innovative platform. Through this new delivery model, MCCC will be capable of delivering on-demand services through the cloud, software updates and enhancements will be available automatically, and MCCC will avoid the expense of maintaining computer servers, upgrading software, and performing system maintenance.

“Our decision to make this move is consistent with our top strategic goal – to ensure student success,” said Dr. Jianping Wang, MCCC president. “This new technology enables us to serve students anytime, anywhere, which is the expectation of today’s mobile students.”

Students will now have the high tech support for their academic progress -- including online advising, and accurate degree planning -- in the palms of their hands.

“This is yet another example of how Mercer uses technology to enhance services to students,” Wang said.

In addition, employees can save time from repetitive administrative functions and redirect their time to directly engage with students. According to Jeff Ray, president and CEO of Ellucian, the move enables MCCC to access the most current software updates and implement cutting-edge technology in its delivery of student services.

“MCCC was the ideal first college to shift fully to the Amazon Web Service cloud with a SaaS deployment,” Ray said. “The college has unlocked a model of continuous improvement and innovation that helps the institution focus on providing an extraordinary student experience.”
