Inspired by a Phillies baseball game, this painting by Kelly will be part of "My Philadelphia Story," on permanent display at Philadelphia International Airport.
West Windsor, N.J. -- Lucas Kelly, Professor of Fine Arts at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), is plenty busy these days, and not just with teaching. Kelly's work will be exhibited in some varied venues and locations around the region in the coming year.
This Friday, Sept. 2, a group show featuring one of Kelly's sculptures, opens at AUTOMAT Gallery, 319 N. 11th Street, Philadelphia, Pa. The opening reception is Sept. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m.; a second opening takes places Oct. 7, from 6 to 10 p.m. The exhibition runs through Sunday, Oct. 23. More about AUTOMAT Gallery is available at here.
Also in Philadelphia, Kelly has a painting included in a large public art project that will be permanently installed at Philadelphia International Airport. The project, called "My Philadelphia Story," features a collection of objects that Philadelphians have donated to the city. Kelly’s piece is intensely personal, inspired by his parents’ late-in-life love for the Philadelphia Phillies. More about the project can be found here. A link to Kelly’s piece and his statement about it is available here.
Should anyone be taking a trip to the West Coast, they will find two of Kelly's paintings included in "Elegant Simplicity" at Eastern Oregon University (La Grande) from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4.
Kelly will have a solo exhibition in early 2017 at the Center for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, N.J. More details will follow on the center’s website here.
Additionally, Kelly has been selected as a featured artist in the 2016-17 winter edition of Studio Visit. Since 2008, this series of juried artist books has offered artists a new and effective venue through which to introduce their work to a serious national audience of art world professionals. Each high quality volume of Studio Visit features approximately 150 artists, who have been selected by professional curators. Learn more about the publication here.
